The Story of my Struggle with Weight and Weight Loss

A photo of a measuring tape, similar to the one I will be using during my weight loss journey.

I have a serious weight problem. I have struggled with it for most of my life, but I’ve usually thought something like, “I’ll deal with it, eventually.” Or, “That’s just the way God made me, so I’m good with that.” But I have to admit it – I am morbidly obese. If I don’t do…

How That One Night Changed the 70s For Me

I wrote two weeks ago about The Day That Changed Everything. That was the day my Dad was killed in a truck accident. In that post, I wrote about the events of that evening and the horrible day after my 13th birthday. I know I have more stories to tell about that day and its…

On taking a Facebook break and fighting phone addiction

Photo of a man's hands, tied together by a phone charging cord attached to a phone, illustrating the addictive hold our cell phones have on us.

Last Sunday (Sept. 15) I started what I am calling a “phone detox” and at least a two-week break from Facebook. I knew I was spending way too much time checking “what’s new” on Facebook, seeing what friends were doing, sharing funny (or not-so-funny) memes, and generally wasting time. And 90% of the time I…

The Day That Changed Everything

Photo of my dad, brother, and me from 1966. We were each dressed in coats and ties, so it was probably either Christmas or Easter; I was about 6 and my brother would have been 3 or 4.

I wrote the original version of this post on an old blog I had on my business site on August 18, 2015. I am updating it here because I’m moving all of my personal posts here and this is an extremely major part of the Life and Times of Paul Timmy and it needed to…

On Being Interviewed on the Hallway Chats Podcast

Photo of me, Paul Oyler, along side the title of this blog - "The Curious Life and Times of Paul Timmy".

I recently had the honor of being interviewed for the Hallways Chats podcast. It was fun talking with Tara and Liam, but I didn’t feel especially good about it afterward. I felt that I kind of stumbled around a bit and I was pretty sure I had said a couple of things wrong. Most importantly to me, I felt like there were a couple of times that I basically apologized for being a Christian and a follower of Jesus.

Recap of My Weekend at WordCamp Kent 2019

I build and manage websites for small businesses, churches, ministries, a race car team, an author, and a college professor. The software that I use is called WordPress. I’ve been using WordPress since it was first released in 2003 and it has grown to the point that now, roughly 1/3 of all websites on the…
